Disable Skype for Business Online in Office 365

Solution

Overview

This is intended for those who are currently using or intend to use BIZSKYPE with Skype Federation and/or Office 365 integration. Once you are using BIZSKYPE you have to disable Skype for business Online on Office 365 for your domain. Doing this will help with federation so you can communicate with other domains that are hosted on Office 365 Skype for Business and Skype.

 

Prerequisites

You must have administrative privileges on your Office 365 account.

 

Disable your Users use of Office 365 Skype for Business Online

If you are adding users to Office 365, or already have users on Office 365 you must Edit the Business Premium or E3/E4 plan for the user by going into their licensing and un-checking the Skype for Business Plan box in their License list.

 

1. Login to the Office 365 Admin Portal

2. In the left menu of the Office 365 admin page click on Users/Active Users

3. Identify the user you want to change and click on the name in the list

4. In the left menu click licensing

5. Click the dropdown for the O365 Plan and you will see checkboxes for each service that is part of their plan, un-check the box next to Skype for Business Online and click save (This will turn off Skype for Business for them in Office 365)

 

Disable your Domain for use with Office 365 Skype for Business Online

1. Login to the Office 365 Admin Portal

2. In the left menu of the admin page click on "domains"

3. Mark the domain in the list you wish to change and in the right side click on Manage DNS

4. Click "Change Domain Purpose" 

5. Un-check the box next to Skype for Business so the domain will not be used for Skype for Business Online in Office365

6. Follow the instuctions to save your changes

 

Disable your Public IM/Skype Federation for use with Office 365 Lync Online

 1. Login to the Office 365 Admin Portal

 2. In the top-right Admin drop-down menu select Skype for Business

 3. Click on Organization, then External Communications

 4. Un-check the box labelled for Public IM connectivity

 5. Click SAVE
